Cirque De Mystique

For this project we paired with a partner and given a name drawn out of a hat for a hypothetical tour. The tour title we were given was “Behind the Curtain.” We were then prompted to create a poster for a tour using photography and typography.

We both interpreted this title as something that would be used for a more theatrical show. We went in the direction of a circus. This circus is not like a regular circus, it’s a more creepy circus. We wanted to portray a creepy poster that leaves a more uneasy feeling. The name of the circus is “Cirque De Mystique” which translates from French to English, “Mystical Circus.” I based the tours title typography on vintage circus posters and curved it to give it some motion. We made the curtain itself feel very jumbled and almost suffocating to add to the creepy feel. The eyes represent the audience and we used the backstage elements to make the viewer feel like they’re somewhere they’re not supposed to be.
