Sound and Silence

In this project, I was prompted to create a couture fashion magazine with the goal of promoting a movie or TV show. This fashion magazine is based on the character Lane Kim from the TV show Gilmore Girls. The character had to hide her true interests and personality from her mother. Lane Kim loved all music, especially rock and roll, and wearing bright colors and band tees. Her mother was strict and expected her to fit into a small box. This fashion magazine highlights the transition between being her true self and hiding from her mother.

I chose to start the magazine with the character in her mother’s box, feeling very plain and sad, as if it is consuming her. Then, as you go throughout the magazine, you learn more about her character and how she navigates her daily life. All images were photographed by me, and clothing was both styled and made by me.
